Get to know the partners and associates who make up our dedicated and skilled legal team here at McKenzie Little.

Matt McKenzie

Matt joined the team in September 2022 as a member, and his practice focuses primarily on real estate matters and loan closings, as well as estate planning.

 

After graduating from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2006, Matt joined the law firm of Tannehill & Carmean, PLLC, where he practiced for 16 years in real estate and other related matters, closing over 15,000 transactions during that time.  In November of 2013, Matt was voted one of Super Lawyer's Rising Stars of the Mid-South.

While in law school, Matt clerked for two years with Hughes & Hitt, P.A., assisting with real estate loan closings. Matt also clerked with The Scruggs Law Firm, assisting with case research and drafting memorandums for mass tort litigation. In his last year of law school, Matt clerked for Lafayette County Chancellor Edwin H. Roberts, Jr.

Matt is a native of Florence, Alabama.

 

As the youngest of five children who all attended the University of Mississippi, Matt served as Sergeant-At-Arms of the Associated Student Body Senate and was voted a Class Favorite his senior year at Ole Miss. He also served as President of Phi Delta Theta and was honored with the Arthur R. Priest Award for being the top Phi Delta Theta member in the nation.

Matt has two daughters, Nora Gray and Murphey Deems, and one son, Chancellor Colle.

Terry Little

Terry enjoys a diverse practice consisting of transactional real estate and litigation-related matters.
With 20+ years in the legal field, Terry’s practice is currently focused in the areas of residential and commercial real estate closings, refinances, title examination, title issues, 1031 tax deferred exchanges, residential and commercial leases, boundary line agreements and disputes, easements, and timber-related litigation. Terry also has extensive experience in the areas of insurance defense and the defense of governmental entities under the Mississippi Tort Claims Act, having spent the vast majority of his career at a regional insurance defense firm. Terry has represented policyholders and national insurers in liability and coverage matters, where he has tried several cases to verdict. In addition to real estate, his practice area includes governmental liability, premises liability, product liability, transportation law, construction defects, professional liability, wrongful death, and other catastrophic injury claims. 

 

Prior to joining our team, Terry served as in-house counsel at a regional energy corporation, was a partner in a regional insurance defense firm, and operated a real estate title company.

Michelle Covington

As our real estate closing manager, Michelle has more than 15 years of experience handling closing transactions in the state of Mississippi.

 

A Texas native, Michelle attended Amarillo College to obtain an accounting degree before she began her banking career. In 2002, Michelle and her family moved to north Mississippi, where she continued in banking until 2004, when she received an opportunity within the Oxford real estate industry.

 

Although born and raised in Amarillo, she has happily adopted the Oxford community as home and thrives on bringing families closer to this unique town. Michelle has been an ambassador for the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce for three years, a member of the North Mississippi Board of Realtors for 15 years, and was named affiliate of the year twice.
